What's better, cashback or frequent flyer points?
What's a point worth?
This really depends on your own valuation of frequent flyer points and your point redemption goals, but as a simplistic guide, we at Rewardist are happy to pay at least 1c per point for most frequent flyer programs. If you're planning to redeem these points for flights (particularly in the pointy end of the plane 🥂), you can get some real value out of them, but it's good to keep in mind what you personally value. Here are some good resources to help determine the potential value of frequent flyer points:- pointhacks.com.au/rewards-points-valuations/
- australianfrequentflyer.com.au/qantas-velocity-points-worth/
How to choose
Using our simplistic valuation of 1c per point, you can easily compare cashback & frequent flyer offers like-for-like.Example
Let's say that adidas has an offer of 7 velocity points per $, that's effectively 7c per $ spent, then say adidas also has an offer of 5% cashback, an effective value of 5c per $ spent, making the points offer the one to go for in this scenario.
